There are homes that already have termites and there are homes that will have termites.
What if they’re already there?
If you already have termites, an extermination company can treat the home. The treatment will kill off the termites that are already there. In addition, the same treatment will keep them away for a long time.However, if they’ve already caused damage, the damage should be repaired. These tiny insects can compromise structural timbers, plywood sheathing and more. Additionally, termites can (and will) also eat sheet rock. Sometimes they only leave the visible coat of paint.
How to Keep Them Away?
By using a few basic precautions you can help keep these monsters away. When you go fishing, you put something on the hook to lure the fish. This is called bait. Wood mulch around the perimeter of the home is also called bait. If you must use wood for landscaping, make sure that it’s pressure treated. This process discourages termites. Keep the garage and basement walls cleared. This allows you to see if the termites mud tubes appear. Storing paper or cardboard products on the floor is more bait.
Visit your favorite hardware store. Get the strongest chemical that you can find in pellet form. Just follow the directions and spread this around the foundation of your home multiple times during the year. If you prefer, hire a extermination company to perform this task for you. They’ll inspect the home during the year, and most have an insurance policy to cover damages that may occur.
