I’m talking about termites, and they can destroy your home. They’re not big, only about ¼ “ long. But, if unchecked, they’ll destroy your house as surely as if Godzilla stomped on it.
Termites
In our area, there are homes that will have termites and there are homes that already have termites. If termites are already in your home, an extermination company can treat the home and kill off the termites that are already there. And that same treatment will keep them away for a long time.
What Can They Do?
First, if they’ve already caused damage, the damage should be repaired. Damages can include compromised structural timbers and plywood sheathing and more. Termites can (and will) also eat sheet rock, leaving only the visible coat of paint.
How Do I Keep Them Away?
A few basic precautions can help keep these monsters away. Wood mulch around the perimeter of the home is called bait. If you use any wood for landscaping, make sure it’s pressure treated as this process discourages termites. Keep the garage and basement walls cleared so that you can see if their mud tubes appear. Don’t store any paper or cardboard products on the floor, as this is more bait.
Then visit your favorite hardware store and get the strongest chemical you can find in pellet form. Then spread this around the foundation of your home multiple times during the year, just follow the directions. You’ll be doing your home a favor.
